Dr. Anne Emile Zaki

Dr. Anne Emile Zaki serves as Assistant Professor of Preaching and Practical Theology at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt.

Raised in Cairo in a pastor's home, Dr. Zaki has been involved in teaching and ministry leadership since her teenage years. At age 16, she was selected by the Egyptian government to represent Egypt at Pearson College UWC in Canada, an international school dedicated to peace and global understanding. She later attended Calvin University, where she pursued a liberal arts Christian education that integrated her faith with her commitment to social justice.

After graduating, Dr. Zaki returned to Cairo and earned a master's degree in social psychology from The American University in Cairo under the supervision of human rights advocate Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim. During that time, she married Rev. Naji Umran, and together they served Heliopolis Community Church for three years. In 2002, they moved to North America, where both earned Master of Divinity degrees from Calvin Theological Seminary and served churches in Michigan and British Columbia. In 2011, they returned to Egypt with their four sons, Jonathan, Sebastian, Emmanuel, and Alexander.

Dr. Zaki served the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship for 13 years as Resource Development Specialist for Global and Multicultural Worship, coordinating international worship conferences in 15 countries. She has also worked as a psychologist and counselor since 2000. Since 2013, she has taught courses in preaching, communication, psychology, theology, worship, and spiritual formation at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo.

In 2022, Dr. Zaki earned her Ph.D. in Theology with a concentration in preaching from Fuller Theological Seminary. Her interests include global Christianity, the cultural influences that shape the church worldwide, developing new ministries, mentoring young leaders, administration, poetry, and music.

Dr. Zaki is the author of As Those With Hope: Preaching in Times of Crisis (Langham Publishing, 2026), and co-editor and a contributing author of Now to God Who Is Able: Vocation, Justice and Ministry (Pickwick Publications, 2023). She has also contributed to Surviving Jewel (Wipf & Stock, 2022) and Untie the Cords of Silence (Wipf & Stock, 2022), authored the chapter "Diversity & Inclusion: Gender Justice in the Evangelical Church in Egypt" in Middle Eastern Women: The Intersection of Law, Culture, and Religion (Diyar Publisher, 2020), and published "My Odyssey Towards Ordination as Pastor" in FAMA Magazine (2019).
